Since 1998 the most colourful event in the world takes place in Carinthia, the wonderful south of Austria. The festival has a very long tradition and founded the modern bodypainting art movement.

The 22^nd edition of the World Bodypainting Festival, the World Championships of the best bodypainting artists, will lead artists from up to 50 nations to Klagenfurt, who will do everything possible to amaze visitors and make them laugh. High quality Art creates a special experience for all visitors of the Open Air art park "Bodypaint City" combined with music and shows. 

The venue is situated in the inner city of the state capital Klagenfurt and framed picturesquely by the historical buildings of the theatre, the art house and the city gallery. In addition, this charming place offers a wide range of bars, cafés and restaurants, ideal possibilities for the WB Academy program and the side events.

Installation Art Award

The World Bodypainting Festival defines itself as a full-time Open Air art park with attractions for the young and the old, therefore also the musical entertainment is an essential part. Different stages and action areas with national, as well as international bands, street musicians and DJs are part of "Bodypaint.City". 

Around the presentations of the finalized living Bodypainting canvases, a high quality music program takes place.

Music highlights in the past were, for example, Shaggy, Inner Circle, Gentleman, Madcon, Camo & Krooked Wanda, Glasperlenspiel, Mono & Nikitaman, The BossHoss, Stereo MCs, Lost Frequencies to mention a few. See the full program and line up under the menu "Program"

 

 

 

Traditionally the last highlight on the Final day is the legendary colourful AFTERSHOW Party. 

Within an event, where the body is the artwork, a connection to the topics of styling and fashion is clearly given. Runway Shows, Styling Corner and Beauty Make-up workshops and demonstrations take place during the main days. 

What would a festival be without the opportunity to grub and look. The body is the most important part of the Festival, but there will be the Bodypainting & Beauty expo in 2019 as well. The best producers and sellers of Bodypainting colour and equipment and other professional exhibitors from inland and abroad are on site with their stalls and all Bodypainters (and who want to become one) can test, compare and buy products, for sure under professional guidance of the tradeshow exhibitors. Beside Bodypainting products, the market offers cosmetics, make-up and hair products. 

 

This Lifestyle market presents many handcrafted, creative and decorative things as well as fashion, jewellery, piercing, tattoo, wild style and accessoires.

 

The different culinary stalls und lovely designed foodtrucks offer something for any taste. Besides regional specialitites you can also try international streetfood trends.

Bodypainting is an ephemeral art and before it is simply washed away, it has to be captured. It has an intimate connection to photography and has influenced the development, within this discipline, of a whole new genre. Therefore, the WBF main days offer photographers an amazing location, professional models, performers and the best artists in the world, that support the photographers, so they can capture that 'perfect' Bodypainting image.

The Festival week starts on Sunday, the 8th of July with the "WB Academy", which is the high professional education and training program for Bodypainters, Make-up artists, photographers and models (and for all those, who wish to become one). The best teachers in their fields share their knowledge and secrets in many different workshops and seminars. 

 

Many classes for beginners, as well as advanced and professionals take place in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee. With the great support of our sponsors as among others Kryolan, Senjo Color, Cameleon, Diamond FX, Mac Pro and Davinci it is possible to keep the Academy affordable for everybody.

Body Circus

The party highlight during the festival week is indeed the traditional Body Circus on Tuesday- the  surreal ball. Visitors  in fantastic costumes, decorated with bodypainting, extreme make up or masks show up in a mystic surrounding. Shrill music acts, Djs, visuals and fantastic artists fascinate the visitors until the early morning. Again we have a magic castle to celebrate the ball of the bodypainters. The location 2019 will be in the old town of Klagenfurt.
